The History of Cocaine and Mariuana in Japan

Cocaine was introduced to the region through european colonialism, specifically in the dutch east indies. The japanese colonial authorities did not take enforcement of the opium band seriously if it did not affect japanese people themselves. It actually wasn't banned for recreational use in the united states until 19 14. Maraguana, meanwhile, is actually native to Japan and burned as ritual sacrifices by buddhist and shinto priests. What's less clear is whether there was a pre twentieth century tradition of smoking marawuana like tobacco.
