The Inefficient Government of the United States
Our government was designed to be incredibly inefficient because the belief went at the time. The idea is that if we can force the government to slow down, hopefully it will outlast whatever factions might arise. So how well did this system work? Because clearly it worked for a while. But the short lesson is that it takes a very long time for any one group of people to take control of every element of the government. And that's what a majority faction would have to do in order to inflict its will on the country writ large.
