The Ideal of Education in the Middle Ages
Gymnasts were superseded by another type of person: the orator. The education of children was brought into line with what people thought of as the ideal of human perfection. Those with knowledge became the ideal, and those who could act through soul powers remained the ideal. In mediaeval times, in the area of education, orators assume the place once held by greek gymnasts.
