The Importance of China in the Indo-China War
Nixon's main motivation for going to China was to get help with winding down the Vietnam War. He mistakenly thought China could and would pressure the stubborn Vietnamese. Mao didn't, however, cut his military support for the Communist in Vietnam. Nor did he back down on his anti-imperialist rhetoric or reduce his funding for revolutions around the world.
