If automation is not the culprit for, say, the lack of good jobs that we're seeing right now, what is your diagnosis? What is actually happening to cause this erosion in job quality and then, by extension, the quality of life that many people are experiencing? You just really hit the nail on the head. The thing is that the automation theorists are right about something. They're very right about something,. which is the fact that people are having a lot of trouble finding jobs. And because of that, their bargaining position against their employers is less.

Paris Marx is joined by Aaron Benanav to discuss why jobs are getting worse because the economy’s slowing down, not because technology is speeding up, and why that requires a vision of post-scarcity centered around human relationships instead of technological change.
