After atias ended his tenure as a high class hostage, he went on to have a storied military career. He was particularly adept at cobbling together alliances of so called barbarian groups or convincing one group to fight on behalf of rome. In four 50 adius was regarded as the most important roman military man in the western empire and was called the protector of gaul. So when atila invaded gaul, he had essentially thrown ears of positive interactions with atias out the window.
