Jefferson Davis and the Eggnog Riot
In 1827, 19 cadets and one soldier were put on house arrest for their part in the eggnog riot at West Point. Jefferson Davis avoided being court martial due to his being immediately compliant upon being caught where he went back to his room. For over a month, a tribunal of professors and soldiers heard the testimony of 167 witnesses which included Robert E. Lee. 53 cadets received less severe punishment.
