The Central Bankers Are Trapped
The US went off the gold standard in 1971, leading to high levels of inflation. Paul Volcker jacked up interest rates to as high as 20% on the overnight Fed funds rate. Now it's impossible to raise rates again to levels near 10%. The only way to not implode the system and to serve us all these debts is to have interest rates close to zero.
