The Jump Scare Effect on a Motion Picture Screen

It's easy to produce that jump scare effect because it, it literally is just an instinct. And so it's very easy to exploit that on a motion picture screen. Very difficult to do that on a page of a screen play. Information doesn't come into us in a way that makes us jump. There are other things that will scare us. But you're not actually going to get the reader to jump in fear. You have to sort of substitute something else,. Something that is the equivalent of a jump scare.
