The Importance of Tithing

Rob Bell: About four or five years ago I started feeling really uncomfortable with the way that tithing monies are spent. After my husband died unexpectedly and suddenly, I realized I was paying my literal widow's might to an organization that was using it in a way that was hurting people that I love. So I started paying my tithing to the humanitarian aid fund instead. And that went along fine for over a year. But when he had to renew his temple recommend,. they ultimately decided not to renew my temple recommend. He says there may be consequences if you are really honest with your leadership, but to me it's it's worth it.
