The History of Weather Forecasts
The first successful computer forecast was produced in the United States in 1950. The computation time for a 24-hour forecast was about 24 hours. Much of this time was consumed by manual operations, mainly by the reading, printing, reproducing, sorting and interfiling of punch cards. With a larger capacity and higher speed machine, the non-arathmetical operations will be eliminated, says Peter Moore.
