The outbreak of World War One was a body blow to the family. Heinrich, having a German name, had a very, very bad time with workmates. The Willy Fisher actually went to work in a draftsman's office at the shipyard. But he studied part-time evening classes to matriculate for university. And when it looked as though the Soviet Union, the Civil War was still going on, but it looked as if the Reds were going to triumph, Heinrich took the family to Russia. So father and mother were returning home, but the two boys were going to a new land.
