How Much Did You Know About Insects Back When You Graduated?
Ando went to cambridge studying natural sciences. But he was more interested in social mammals and birds than insects. He spent a year out after his degree, because he didn't want to think about the process of sorting out a ph d. And then became aware that leaf cutting ants could be just as good at analysing large groups of organisms like humans. Now an insect expert now, but how much did you know about insects back them when you graduate? Embarrassingly little. So what changed? Well, all sorts of things really, mostly luck. An happen starts.
