It's not only 400 years since Shakespeare's death, but it's 500 years this year since the creation of the Venetian ghetto. The idea was to shut them up at night behind locked doors so they can't come out at night and make them pay for the people who guard those doors,. But you can see that it's an attempt to figure out because there were people 500 years ago who said, just drive them out.
