The History of the Ashkaga Family
By the 1440s things had begun to spiral out of control. Local Di-myo, sensing an opportunity, began to fight one another for territory as they realized the Bakafu was unable to enforce its will. There were also a series of peasant rebellions over issues of debt. Buckfu resources were vastly outmatched by those of the combined Di- myo. By the 1450s, the Ashkaga had lost any real control beyond the vicinity of Kyoto itself.
