The Importance of Understanding the World
Joseph Wiesenbaum's background is really important to understand how he came to create a LISA. He had a very specific, I think, understanding of the world. And one of the formative moments for him was when he actually joined General Electric in 1953. The automation of paper checks was desperately needed because it was overloading the banking system.
