Drug policy has just been one element of a whole panoply of policies designed to entrench racial and economic inequalities. Just undoing one of them leaves that whole malleable, pro-dian system of whiteness able to reassert itself in some other way. So I just think you guys are so right on in talking about the need to get to the heart of the issue which is not drugs and isn't even drug policy. It's the whole system of Whiteness and racial inequality.
Featuring Helena Hansen, Jules Netherland, and David Herzberg on how American capitalism and its illusions of whiteness both created the opioid crisis and shaped the response to it. We are discussing their book Whiteout: How Racial Capitalism Changed the Color of Opioids in America.
