The Importance of Rent Strike Movements

I wouldn't encourage anybody to stop paying their rent because you can end up with a Section 8. I see that happening to people and it will scar them financially for years. The reason we ended up with rent regulation after the First World War was because a lady from Glasgow called Mary Barber led a rent strike in the Glasgow Docs area. She capitalised on people moving to Glasgow to work as part of the war effort. But that's, you know, rent strikes work. That's how we endedup with the rent regulation that was scrapped in the 1988 housing act. Although it went through different iterations throughout the 20th century and no different pieces of legislation, which I won't bore you
