The pathways in your brain are like the muscles in your body. The more you use them for any particular thing, the bigger and stronger they get. That's what happens when you inadvertently accidentally practice pain over time. When that happens, we say that your brain has become sensitive to pain. It doesn't underlie all pain, but it explains a lot of chronic pain.
