What's the Tradition of Skin Cakes?

i was the first time i ever had one, i was living down south in new orleans. And so they put marty gra colors on it, usually, like the food glitter. Some of em have cream cheese, or cream cheese ones are the best. But then they put a little plastic baby jesus in there, cause it's like a martigraw leading up to alat people even know that represents baby JESUS. How can they do that? I don't know, i don't know.
