Is There a Human Right to Be Loved?
Liao: Human rights are not built to guarantee flourishing. That's not their political function. They're meant to be about the basics. What's the minimum that we owe to each other? And so the human rights against social deprivation or the human right to have adequate social access, that will not guarantee you a friend. It would only be if you couldn't lead a minimally decent life without being loved that we could talk about a human right to be loved.
