Galileo Didn't Invent the Telescope
One of the most pervasive myths about Galileo is that he invented the first telescope. Now this is entirely untrue. In fact, he would have never rushed one into completion had it not been for the fact that someone else had already created the first Telescope. Hans Lippersay seems to have been the first person to try and patent a telescope like device. But as I said earlier, his patent was denied because the patent office determined that too many similar devices were already out there.
