The car death belt is two areas of America where the likelihood of dying in a traffic fatality is significantly higher than it is in other areas. People living in the poorest US states and counties are significantly more likely to die by accident than people in the richest. Roads are different in those areas. Cars are different inThose areas. Just like if you had a lifeguard package in 1956, you were more likely to survive a traffic crash. If you drive an older car today, you are less likely to survivea traffic crash. And these are all matters of layered risk exposure.
