colonial americans paid about one to one and a half % of their annual incomes in taxes to the king. These tax rates are much lower than what modern british citizens or modern American taxpayers pay. No king in history ever imposed, to my knowledge, an income tax. They would have stormed the palace, off with his head. It's ironic that a tax that no king could ever impose on its citizenry is now being proposed by joe byden himself.
