Is This Based on the Actual Real Cases?

I had a seed in the actual case and you know I read in the Elizabeth Bowens review of four very precocious French apologies. One of them was a French peasant girl, and she wrote a book and Bowen didn't really review it nicely because the book actually wasn't readable. So from that point in on I sort of make it into two children's story.
