The Short Tales of the Green Parrot, Cresotis
Mr. Wood tells us that a friend of his had a parrot of this species, which proved herself a most tender and affectionate guardian. Many American varieties of the short tales, usually called green parrots, cresotis, differ from their African congeners the jacos in their prevailing green colour. Two species of this family are especially well known to us, the green and the Amazon. They are both large birds of 14 inches long and about 21 to 23 across the wings. The legs are strong, thick and fleshy, the feet powerful and armed with strong claws. Their plumage lies close and thick, the feathers being small and imbricated.
