The Problems of Renting Privately

One in three private renters now spend at least half their household income on rent. Two and a half million renters nearly are behind or constantly struggling to pay their rent. Housing benefit is supposed to cover the bottom thirds of rents in any given area but it's been frozen since March 2020. In that period rents have increased by over 5% but in some areas much more. The average shortfall now between the housing benefit and the rent is £150 a month.
