The Dangers of Combustible Oils
The concept of spontaneous combustion is not only possible, but it could be likely in some certain situations as explained in this National Fire Protection Association Education video. NFPA has warned the public about the dangers of leaving oil soaked rags bald up to dry. When rags are coated with oil-based paints, stains, varnishes or other chemicals those oils can self-heat as they dry. They can get so hot, in fact, that a fire can start with no apparent ignition source, like an open flame or a spark.
