The Legend of Clutterus

The origins of crampus are still unclear, but some scholars think that the legend pre dates christianity. They believe that the story has roots in an ancient alpine myth of a horned god the witches. Pan was also known for robbing the innocents from people, usually through sexual means. In a culture that saw the threshold between childhood and adulthood as the loss of virginity, pan figuratively stole people's children. And when you think of it that way, it's more than easy to see similarities, not only between crampus and pan, but between pan and a character that disney has helped us all fall in love with - peter pan.
