The duc de orleans woke up at dawn full of doubts about what he had just agreed to. He continued to vacillate, but was apparently pushed over the edge by a short piece of advice from monsieur de tallyrand. Orleans sent one of his men to tallyrand, asking whether he should really accept the lieutenant generalship. And tallyrand's reply came back in three simple words, let him accept. So obviously with a great deal of reluctance, orlean said fine, i'll do it.
