I didn't know, A, anything about the history of the country and B, what genocide meant in 1994. It was a terrible, I mean, it's just a really dreadful, hideous atmosphere. You do not just see death here, you feel it and smell it. There are two thoughts then, that of the mortal terror which must have been in their minds ... The hatred and savagery in the hearts of those who were going to kill them.
