Preventing Hyperglycemia in the Postoperative Period

Part of the normal physiologic response for surgical patients is to raise blood sugar. We've known that elevated glucose in the postoperative period is associated with risk of infection. And now most recently, randomized control trials demonstrate that if we can target less than 150, that we seem to have the most optimum reduction in risk of infection and hyperglycemia.
