The Role of the Phone in Modern Life

I'm thinking about Dorothy Parker and how good she is on a phone conversation. I love people getting down how people actually talk. Warhol was clever because he rang his secretary every morning and did his over the phone to her so she was writing down what he was saying. There's a novel called Talk that just does that and it's so brilliant. Some of the best books I've read over the last year have been those New York Review re-ishies. They do really good things and then they make them look so beautiful as well.
