In 19 29, the united states had seen six straight years of booming economic growth. Most american families still lived below the poverty line. Economic inequality was at its worst level in decades too. The prosperity of the twenties had fuel tho culture of over speculation and get rich quick schemes. In 19 20, a man named charles ponsey drew headlines when he swindled millions from gullible americans. Thousands more lost their life savings in the frenzied speculation of florida real estate which burst in the 19 twenties.
