Is Cursing a Bad Thing?

In the middle ages, go to hell was considered one of the absolute wor sthings you could say to some one. But in subsequent centuries, the meaning drifted and now cursing is just cussing. So if the act of wishing a bad thing can be called cursing, the resulting bad things can be called a curse. For example, during the cold war, you could say the arms race is se on mankind.
