In Kenya, peak fire season typically begins in mid-January and last 13 weeks. Currently we don't understand whether smoke from different types of biomass bands causes different health problems. However currently air quality regulators treat emissions from all biomass bands as the same even though that is not necessarily the case. Outdoor pollution was estimated to cause 4.2 million premature deaths by 2016.
