Introduction
In 1948, residents of Clearwater woke up to find that a strange set of footprints had appeared in the sand at Clearwater Beach. The tracks had a stride of nearly four feet, sunk an inch deep in the sand, and had three toes. Some people said it was a huge sea turtle looking for a place to lay its eggs. But the police chief told a reporter, I've never heard of a sea turtle with a stride of that length.
