How Does Christianity Elevate the Idea of Friendship?
Aristotle would have seen people at a lower level, you know, in the kind of economic and psychological order, they really wouldn't be worthy of friendship. But when jesus says that i no longer call you mere servants, but friends, what makes that possible? I think the short answer is, the incarnation makes that possible. That god becomes one of us, so that god can be in a personal, embodied relationship with us. God wants our excellence. He wants our goodness and virtue.
