A balance sheet is simply a financial statement that measures what you own and what you owe. The cash flow statement is very similar to like your checking account. It cares about did money come in to your checking account or did money leave your checking account? So over a long enough time period, the cash flow statement and the income statement will converge with each other because they are reflecting the accounting realities in different ways.
