Switzerland was experiencing part of the same potato blight that was ravaging Europe got everybody huh. People were another need to find something else to dig out of the ground and eat or there isn't anything else so you go find a factory job or you go into the city or you just leave Switzerland and go to you know Minnesota or something. Heidi is anxious to to be able to go home so that she can maybe use her personality to cure grandma. Rotten mire is not as big and antagonist to Heidi as she is initially when Heidi first gets to the city but I think it's it's is instructive of how the book once you look at the city by having this be the first
