New York and the Planter Elite

The Petroun's were the laddafundists of upstate New York, the Hudson River Valley. They had huge trunks of land that they controlled and used it to wield extensive political power. Martin Van Buren was the son of a tavern keeper who was a tenant on a Petroun holding. He organized all the other smart young middle class hustlers amongst the Dutch and English middle classes. Every point, you're in some sort of class conflict in the domestic context but then in America, you get to do class collaboration with a different ruling class.
