The Quasi-Mystical Rapture in Descartes' Meditations
The passage does not constitute a break within the book either stylistically or as I have argued elsewhere in terms of content. In my reading of the meditations, the rapture finds a proper place in the fifth meditation, not in the third but it has a point there. The citation is only a rather striking example, striking on account of its mystical orbitals. Our question now is how does this quasi-mystical rapture fit in with the rest of the text and what bearing does it have on the question we are pursuing regarding the nature of this book?
