Brent Meeker: Roy Kerr says that Penrose's Singularity theorem for black holes doesn't actually apply in the real world. He asks if there are any solutions, even computational ones, for collapse of matter into a spinning black hole and do they treat the matter quantum mechanically? David Wheeler: I think we're going to get better understanding by really, really understanding the cases we understand first, and then expanding that slowly to include things we don't understand.
Welcome to the April 2023 Ask Me Anything episode of Mindscape! These monthly excursions are funded by Patreon supporters (who are also the ones asking the questions). We take questions asked by Patreons, whittle them down to a more manageable number — based primarily on whether I have anything interesting to say about them, not whether the questions themselves are good — and sometimes group them together if they are about a similar topic. Enjoy!
