Some studies do find that that an internal focus results in in higher muscle e m g. A lot of studies don't, though. And the ones that do find a difference tend to find a relatively small difference. So if someone does just prefer to do hypertrophy training with a focus on performance in the gym, and lifting with an external attentional focus, that definitely should still result in muscle growth.
