The Importance of Deterrence in the Cold War
The Cuban Missile Crisis turned out to be in some ways the most compelling case for my theory once evidence came loose on the Soviet side but I had a large number of historical cases before that. What I then began thinking more about the Terrence working together with Janice Gross Stein publishing a book with her in Bob Jervis another book on the course of the Cold War examining in more detail the ways in which general and immediate deterrence can provoke crisis it's designed to prevent.
