The Golden Years Have Come at Last

Octavia was sent to finishing school in New Haven, Connecticut. She returned to live with her father and two years later, she married Colinol Lorenzo Augustus. The old cemetery was once located under what is now the present day site of the Superdome. It fell into disrepair and was abandoned eventually. In the 1960s, the city was hoping to renovate this part of the city and sent notice to families that the cemetery was going to be moved to Canal Street. Unclaimed bodies were placed in large drums and buried in a mass grave under the Hope Mausoleum.
