Is There a Natural Intendance in Me to Disbelieve the Goodness of God?
We have this deep sinful propensity to turn God into an unattractive idol. That sinful disposition even works itself out in the most pious looking religiosity, which I think is really the face of Phariseeism today. The last thing the Pharisees were denying was that sins are a small problem and therefore you don't need much of a solution. There's certainly no need to be born again, hence Nicodemus' confusion over the issue. We can simply sort ourselves out, there's no need for the spirit's regeneration.
