Is There Anything Magic About Oil Independence?

I know there's a lot of arguments over energy independence. I believe no more in oil independence than i believe in coffee independence. In order to get oil independence, we would have had to really cut off world supply and raise the price. And notice that for months before the covet crisis, we were actually slightly net exporters of oil. But we're still subject to world prices. We've got a market. So west, we still have a world market, and the price goes up and down with world oil supplies ad demands. And we still face the world price s result.
