It was not possible to try someone for witchcraft under the Witchcraft Act of 1735. The act outlawed trying people for witchcraft in Great Britain. Instead, it targeted people who pretend to exercise or use any kind of witchcraft and sorcery. This is a response to the horrifying witch trials that had taken place in the UK during the 17th and early 18th centuries.
