What Is the Purpose of Teaching?

Do you imagine that Jesus would have longer conversations around these with people who had ears to hear? I mean, we've got the example where a bunch of people didn't understand a parable. And then Jesus explains it to his disciples. If I was around, obviously I would want to just sit across from Jesus and just start quizzing him. He taught in this way because the way he lived and his teachings created a lot of questions that he thought were best answered through parables.
